The speed of development says Mr Hall has been achieved by using all the best ideas seen in Europe and applying massive amount of pre-planning. "I spent months and years travelling around Europe seeing what I thought were really great ideas and just wondering how we could bring those into the UK and then we had a project in Warsaw. The techniques that the German crew brought to it convinced me that we could actually build a building similar to this in the UK very, very quickly.
Bespoke: The advantage for the client is that particularly in a third party logistics business, he can go out and win a contract and be sure that a bespoke building which suits virtually every one of his requirements is going to be ready to a promise in 10 weeks.
It's a big promise to make but we build a building every 9 days. We're accustomed to making big promises. |

"One of the fundamental elements of this initiative has been that everything is pre-designed. It's absolutely essential that we remove the design time out of the normal delivery period. So by taking the normal design element out of it and standardising the design, the design system is tried and tested. We're not inventing anything new. We've taken the best of German technology and arrived at a system that meets all UK requirements and standards.
"Normally when we commission a building there is a new set of design specialists, a new set of suppliers. There's no consideration being given to retaining the supply chain and it is in making a promise to the supply chain that they are going to be involved for the foreseeable future, that we've been able to extract some loyalty from them and get them to work together. These guys have been working with us now for five years, totally committed to the business.
